Carolyn Wixon

Familiarity with my surroundings, the seasons and bare bones of a place is something I treasure. My work as a horticulturist in the West Country punctuates my artistic practice with knowledge of plants and soil and roots.

Equally, my previous career as a classical ballet dancer means I am physically in tune with my surroundings and acutely aware of my impact on space and place. I explore this to create a natural ebb and flow of movement and connectivity within my painting.
I paint with energy, empathy, and impatience. The way I experience things is demonstrated by the initial brush and palette marks before the painting emerges. The subsequent development of the works is an ongoing journey feeling my way to its conclusion.
