Melanie Guy
My career has involved many approaches, both through teaching art & design, as well as in my own art practice. I am an Hon. member of the Society of Designer Craftsmen; an invited member of Plymouth Society of Artists and a member South West Sculptors.
So, employing different approaches in my art practice - my mediums range from clay, to metal sculptural work and 2d drawing and mixed media. I still work in a 3d design business designing children’s natural play environments in wood.
I am excited by any fresh medium and have mastered traditional silver-smithing techniques using pewter, as well as developing unique contemporary wall reliefs for the interior design industry. My work may be functional or sculptural, depending on the project and may use ceramics or pewter or other metals.
My subject interest is in reflecting the natural world through a semi-abstract language which captures the essence of a memory or an observation. Vivid memories recur from a period when I lived on a boat and sailed the oceans. I express the energy that I see and feel around me in patterns of growth or movement and use the beautiful forms and character to make a strong statement.
